Common Questions About Invisalign Teen

Can I play sports with Invisalign?

Absolutely! For contact sports like football, wrestling, or soccer, simply remove your aligners and wear a standard protective mouthguard. Because there are no metal brackets, you don't have to worry about cutting your lips if you get hit.

What if I lose an aligner?

Don't panic! It happens. Invisalign Teen includes up to 6 free replacement aligners. Just call our office immediately, and we will tell you whether to move to the next tray or pick up a replacement.

Do I have to wear them at school?

Yes. To work effectively, you must wear your aligners for 20 to 22 hours every day. This means you wear them during class, while sleeping, and hanging out. You only take them out to eat and brush.

Will I have a lisp?

You might notice a slight lisp for the first day or two as your tongue gets used to having the plastic trays in your mouth. This is temporary and typically disappears very quickly as you keep talking.

Is Invisalign Teen more expensive?

Not at Thomas Orthodontics. We believe in simple, transparent pricing. We offer Invisalign Teen for the same all-inclusive price as traditional metal braces. No "clear tax" here!

Can I chew gum with them in?

No. Gum will stick to the aligners and can be very difficult to clean off. It can also warp the plastic. You should remove your aligners to chew gum (and brush before putting them back in).

What are "Attachments"?

Attachments are tiny, tooth-colored "bumps" of bonding material we sometimes place on specific teeth. They act like little handles that allow the aligners to grip the teeth and move them more effectively. They are barely visible.

How long does treatment take?

Every smile is unique, but the average treatment time for teens is between 12 to 18 months. This is often faster than traditional braces because we can plan every movement digitally before you even start!
